Helping people live better lives in the community where he grew up motivates our Medical Director.

For Dr. Wightman, a career in medicine meant an opportunity to be a life-long learner and to be of service to others. Both of which, he gets to do on a daily basis at Tri-County Family Medicine.

Growing up in Allegany County, he knew he wanted to return to the area after completing his residency. He did and has been here ever since. “I wanted to serve the people and area where I grew up and see it grow. That gives me a tremendous sense of satisfaction.”

Dr. Wightman graduated Suma Cum Laude from Binghamton University before moving on to medical school at Upstate Medical University. After doing his residency at Highland Family Medicine, he joined Tri-County in 2011.

Another form of satisfaction he gets at Tri-County is helping to train young medical professionals (and he’s very good at it). “Your first year as a physician or advanced professional, requires a mentor. I enjoy being that person and sharing what I have learned over the years. In the end, it benefits our patients to move toward greater total wellness. And that’s what it’s all about.”

When he is not providing patient care, Dr. Wightman enjoys being outdoors with his wife and three children, canoeing or hiking.
